Community Programs

The City of Greenacres Public Works Department is committed to enhance the lives of our residents through community outreach programs such as the Paint Your Heart Out, Arbor Day and the Great American Cleanup.

The City encourages residents to contact the Public Works Department to inquire about programs that they may qualify for and also to inquire about volunteer opportunities in these and other City-wide programs and events.

Paint your heart out event

Paint Your Heart Out provides assistance to low-income homeowners, especially those who are seniors or disabled. The program provides free paint, materials and volunteer labor to applicants whose homes are in need of exterior painting and minor repair work. The program uses recycled paint donated by the Solid Waste Authority and relies on volunteers fueled by kindness and goodwill who are willing to sacrifice a Saturday morning to not only help those in need, but also to improve the aesthetics of our community.

Arbor Day is a nationally celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. Founded by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska in 1872, National Arbor Day is celebrated each year on the last Friday in April. The City of Greenacres continues its commitment to planting, nurturing, and recognizing the importance of trees.

Keep Greenacres Beautiful. Each year thousands of volunteers of all ages across America take part in efforts to clean up and improve their local communities. This includes a massive removal of litter and illegal dumping from neighborhoods, roadways, waterways, parks, schools, etc. This event takes place in April. Residents, Girl Scouts, public officials, children’s groups, and concerned citizens volunteer to cleanup the A & B Canals, and other road right-of-ways.

The City has implemented a program that would allow businesses and organizations from the community to adopt a road and assist the City in the removal of litter from City streets and sidewalks. In return for conducting clean-ups along the designated road, the group would be recognized with signage located at the beginning and at the end of the designated road section. Groups that wish to adopt a one-half (1/2) mile segment of City road right-of-way for litter removal purposes should contact the Public Works Department at 561-642-2072.
