Boards and Committees Banner

 

City Boards & Committees provide a valuable service to the operations of the City.  Residents who are interested in serving this community through volunteer service are encouraged to complete a Board Application.

Mayor Shaw and the City Council encourage residents
to participate in their local government.

Board & Committee Descriptions:

Duties:

  • Rules on appeals of determinations made by the City Building Official and Fire Marshal’s interpretations of the City of Greenacres Building and Fire Code.

Membership:

Duties: 

  • Review the City Charter and provide recommendations for amendments to the City Council for approval. Approved amendments would be placed on the ballot for resident approval during elections.

Membership: 

  • Nine (9) total members: 
    • Six (6) are appointed by the Mayor and City Council 
    • One (1) City employee 
    • One (1) Local 2928 IAFF representative
    • One (1) local business owner

Terms: 

A board that hears employee grievances; meets as needed. The City Council acts as the Civil Service Board. 
 

Duties: 

  • Oversees and makes decisions for the members of the City’s Public Safety Officers/ Firefighters Retirement Plan and Trust. The Florida League of Cities serves as the Plan Administrator. The Board approves payments and medical expenses from the Plan. It determines benefits and reinvests the Plan’s assets.

Membership:

Duties: 

  • Promote and provide public awareness for programs, opportunities, initiatives of public, private, and charter schools, to recognize and promote the accomplishments of students, educators, and all schools located within the City; to also oversee and recommend up to ten (10) educational scholarship awards each year to high school/and or college eligible students who reside in the City.
